'Black Wave' 1999

Acrylic on plywood box 300 x 180 x 50 cms

'Black Wave' is a composite that consists of a panel type shape, a blue wave form and a smaller, shadow - like, cresting wave. The shapes, and the overall arrangement, almost completely detach themselves from the viewer's inertial frame. The thin wax pencil horizon line drawn across the ensemble restores a sense of stability (detail below).
